Not a plane, not a train, but a… ferry? This ov Not a plane, not a train, but a… ferry?

This overnight ferry from Osaka to Beppu run by @ferry.sunflower gets you to Kyushu in comfort. There are various classes of rooms from berths in shared rooms, to suites with balconies. There is even an on-board onsen.

Our ferry departed at 1905, so we bought some food from the Lawsons at the terminal to eat in our rooms for dinner, then after exploring the ship for a bit, we laid out the futons and fell fast asleep. The next morning, we woke bright and early to disembark in Beppu!

Kyushu is a gorgeous island full of nature and off the beaten track experiences. The ferry was certainly more comfortable than taking a plane or Shinkansen!

And maybe that’s how it’s meant to be. Relationships built over time as memories accumulate and familiarity frees.

Do you like to return to old places, or visit new ones all the time?

Sometimes it’s not a button, it’s a lever. But it’s always there at the bottom of the armrest.

It’s especially useful if you’re wearing a baby in a carrier in front, and carrying a backpack on the back, and snagging your straps on the arm rest every time you attempt to shimmy out into the aisle.

Try it on your next flight!
